Schuyler Central High School Future Farmers of America has had a great start this school year with the Burger Bash fundraiser and competing at the county fair. The FFA competition season will not start until later this semester. The new FFA Co-sponsors are Charles Hosier and Casey Harper. “FFA has had a great year so far and the students have done a tremendous job fundraising for National FFA Convention” remarks Mr. Harper, There are currently 30 members in FFA. “FFA gives students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in class and to compete against students from across the state” remarked Mr. Harper.

FFA Member, Kaylie Vavricek showed her sheep at the County Fair.

“FFA has a reputation of only being for Ag (farm) kids, but in all reality, 85% of all careers are influenced by agriculture so anyone can be in FFA.” stated Charles Hosier. To join FFA, students need to be enrolled in one of either Mr. Hosier or Mr. Harper’s classes. There are also annual dues in the amount of twenty dollars that need to be paid by October 1st.

“I was involved with FFA when I was in high school and I assisted various chapters while I was in college” shared Casey Harper. According to Charles Hosier, “I was not involved in FFA in high school, but I have been in it for five or six years just throughout college.”

This year FFA has new goals. According to Mr. Harper “Our goals are to increase chapter participation by 15 students this year and qualify 4 teams for state competition.” FFA will continue to succeed this year with the help of the new FFA Co-sponsors.
