Warrior Wrestlers hope for full season
There are 58 students going out for wrestling according to Head Wrestling Coach, Jeremy Hlavac, “This season we have 40 boys and 18 girls out for the team.” Wrestling season brought back wrestlers from last season. According to Mr. Hlavac, there are returning wrestlers for this wrestling season, “We have 10 returning varsity wrestlers from last season.” Assisting Coach Hlavac are Drey Keairnes and Nick Wilcox. Wrestlers will make small changes due to the pandemic, including students wearing a face mask while they are practicing.
Wilfernando Castro, 11th grade student, and Gina Alba, 9th grade student, are students of SCHS that are going out for wrestling this season. Castro and Alba have their own goals and concerns for this year’s wrestling season. According to Castro, his goal is “to have a good finish this year and to probably make it to State.” Castro also has a concern with this year’s wrestling season along with their goal, “One of my big concerns for this year’s wrestling season is Covid-19, I just hope it doesn’t cause many problems,” Castro explained.
According to Alba, her goal is “to better my craft and do everything with purpose.” Alba has a concern with this year’s wrestling season. “My biggest worry is getting sick. If I get sick, I miss out on at least 2 weeks of practice and some other girls might be out as well,” Alba states.
As a Freshman, Oscar Carvajal is a new Staff Reporter for Warrior News. His main interests are playing the trombone and watching movies.
