State wrestling has come to an end for the year 2024, and with that the results are in. This year four Warrior girls qualified for State; Gina Alba (12), Carly Wemhoff (12), Jessica Ortega (12), and Miriam Deanda (10). Out of the four girls State qualifiers one of the girls placed. Carly Wemhoff was a State medalist, placing 6th. According to girls Assistant Coach Matt Johnston, the biggest challenge he faced as a coach at State “was balancing the girl’s emotions between enjoying and embracing this big moment in their career.” As a senior, Carly Wemhoff commented that the advice she would give the girls that are hoping to qualify for State next year is that ”you control the match.”
The boys also had four State qualifiers and they were; Gasper Juarez (11), Chris Shannon (11), Luis Carrera (12), and Joxsemar Bernal (11). The boys State metalist was Chris Shannon, placing 6th at State. Boys Head Coach Drey Keairnes shared after the State competition his emotional state was “Grateful is definitely the best way that I can describe it.” Chris Shannon shared that in order for him to prepare for next year he would “work harder and be more conditioned.”
