Maribel Gonzalez, a senior at Schuyler Central High School, has been offered a position on the Southeast Community College soccer team. Maribel has been playing soccer since she was around 8 years old, so about 10 years. Maribel explained that her interest in soccer started when she was young. Her father, and siblings all played soccer, and she wanted to try it, so they signed her up for AYSO. Maribel shares that some of her weaknesses in soccer are that she struggles “with finishing my shots on goal.” She explained that her strengths would be “creating plays for the team, assisting goals, and helping out defensively.”
Maribel was also offered a scholarship to SCC. She will be the first of her family to go to college and graduate. “When I was offered the scholarship to be able to commit to SCC, I felt so proud of myself, and it made all those hours of sweat, hard work, and determination all worth it,” Maribel explained. Maribel’s total number of goals this year was 5 goals. Maribel stated that “The things that really helped me get my position on the SCC team was my team and coaches, especially my coaches, thanks to their help they’ve helped push me past my limits and help me work through all my hardships.”
