Shonka to play college volleyball in Iowa
Rachel Shonka is signing a contract for an athletic scholarship to go college at Iowa Western and play volleyball. She chose Iowa because it is a welcoming environment. The students in Iowa were nice to Shonka when she went to Iowa and which made her feel good about the college. As far as what she is hoping to study at college, she is currently undecided.
Shonka started playing sports when she was in 7th grade. She has gone out for volleyball, basketball, and track. Shonka said, “I feel they gave me the scholarship, because I have a good work ethic and they see room to improve in my level of play. Words of wisdom that Shonka would give to an 8th grader are; “If you want to achieve your goals and get noticed by colleges, just work hard. Don’t just work hard at practice, but also in your spare time. It sounds like a lot of work, but if you truly love the sport, then it won’t feel like work at all. It will actually be fun! Some days you won’t want to, but if you keep pushing yourself to be better, you will be better. Never be content with where you are, until you are where you want to be.”
