Cross Country Coaches filled with Determination
The 2020 Schuyler Central High school Warrior Cross Country team is starting off the season with great positivity and high hopes. The team is definitely not letting Covid-19 affect their determination for this season. Head Boys Coach Rick Carter explained that due to Covid-19 things in their regular routine have changed such as; doing all the warmups and cooldowns at South Park, trying their best to social distance even though they’re running, wearing masks on the bus when traveling to meets, and coaches must wear masks for the entire meet. With the season beginning Coach Carter remarks that he’s anxious to see how the team performs. “This is probably the most disciplined team I have ever coached at Schuyler. They have been coming to practice every day with a great attitude and never complain about the workout they have to do. No matter how we do this year, this is a team that I will be very proud of,” Coach Carter states.
Last year the girls team had 6 runners and this year they have 9 to 10. This is Head Girls Coach Cortland Cassidy’s second year coaching and second year at SCHS. According to Coach Cassidy that with the number of girls on the team increasing it improves the team scores in meets. Coach Cassidy believes team member Marisol Deanda has a chance at getting a medal this season at State in October. Coach Cassidy states, “Whether it’s a great workout they complete, or a new personal record they achieve, I am proud to see them succeed and watch their results with them.”
