Softball Returns
The Warrior Softball team is back. “I was ready to get back to school and the season. After already spending a few months in quarantine, I wanted to go back to see my friends and especially since it’s my senior year” remarked Maria Mendez. The Schuyler Community High School softball team had to quarantine for two weeks because a player started having symptoms.
Not practicing can affect a player and how a player may perform. Maria states “this quarantine has affected me physically because I wasn’t as in shape as I was before.” Although this has affected her physically, it doesn’t mean she won’t stop having fun especially because it’s her senior year. Being able to participate in sports is something to appreciate because many schools don’t have the opportunity to have a season. Even though they had to quarantine, the softball players are thankful to get their season back.
The coaches also struggled with not being able to coach the players. When asked about how the quarantine has affected the team Assistant Coach Clarissa Eloge responded with “We had been practicing and playing games for about a month and then we had to stop in the middle of the season, so a lot of the skills we had been working on and the progress we were making was put on hold. When we were able to start practicing again, a lot of the athletes were a bit out of practice so it took a few days to get everybody back into the swing of things.” Even though Covid-19 has placed new restrictions on sports, the softball team now has their season back and are ready to start competing.
