Dodging for Wishes
On Thursday February 25, the Schuyler Central High School Student Council hosted a Dodgeball Tournament to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Nebraska. The Make-a-Wish Foundation is a nonprofit organization that arranges experiences for children with critical diseases.
The Dodgeball Tournament had thirteen teams, each team containing five people, sign up for the tournament. Anyone interested in participating in the tournament had to pay a five dollar fee. The purpose of the tournament was to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, “$360 and food for the food pantry was raised during the tournament” according to Brandi Zavadil, Student Council sponsor.
The Student Council is an organization that represents the student body in which students can join, Mrs. Zavadil stated, “A student can join the Student Council by applying in the Fall. After they apply, they will be interviewed by our new member committee and if they do well, they are admitted to the student council.” The Student Council had a goal for the Dodgeball Tournament in which they achieved, according to Mrs. Zavadil, “Our goal was to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation while also raising the spirits of our students. It was a fun, low-stress event meant to bring all students together for a fun evening.”
