Steinhoff dedicated to the success of students at SCHS
Schuyler Community Schools new Assistant Principal and Activity Director, Travis Steinhoff, is helping SCHS improve. “Our school goals are centered around the continued efforts to establish a culture where optimal learning is prioritized. We’re focusing on accountability for attendance (Every Minute Counts) and we’re being intentional about using data to drive instruction and procedures to increase proficiency” Travis Steinhoff explains. “Every Minute Counts” is a saying that is always said in the announcements to remind students that being at school is important.
When asked about our school’s struggles and strengths Mr. Steinhoff said “In the short time I’ve been here, it’s clear our biggest strength is our people-both students and staff. I have enjoyed getting to know students so far and have been really impressed with how respectful most are.” In terms of struggles, Mr. Steinhoff claims that SCHS has a self image problem. “We have great kids that are intelligent and capable of success. Mr. Keairnes got it right when he talked about changing our language from “We are just Schuyler” to “We are Schuyler”. A little self confidence would take us a long way as we work towards being the school we have the potential to be” Mr. Steinhoff explained.
Mr. Steinhoff grew up in Crete, Nebraska and went to Crete High School. He chose to be at Schuyler, because he had studied Spanish in college and studied in Costa Rica, so he wanted to find a position where being bilingual would be a contribution to whichever place he went too. “Upon visiting Schuyler, I was impressed with the dedication of the administration and the school culture and felt this would be a great place for my family,” Mr. Steinhoff explained. In high school, he was very involved in football, basketball, track, golf, legion baseball, FFA, choir, FCA, and class president of Student Council. He repeatedly tells students at Schuyler Community Schools to get involved. It helps out a lot in the long run. His inspiration to get into education was his father. His father worked at Farmland, the local factory. “My dad worked hard and long hours in order for my family to live the life we had. However, I didn’t want to spend my life working long hours tasked with physical labor like he did. Likewise, aside from my family, my teachers and coaches were my biggest influencers and I hope to pay that forward” Mr. Steinhoff shared.
