FFA reaches for the Highest Awards
The State FFA qualifiers competed on April 6th, 7th, and 8th in Lincoln. Awards were presented to the Natural Resources and Agriscience team. The Schuyler FFA received the following State ribbons: Allison Vavricek received a blue ribbon, Addison Vavricek received a blue ribbon in both Natural resources and Agriculture. Bela Jedlicka received a red and a blue ribbon, and Abby Reyna received blue in both. In the Nursery and Landscape/Agronomy category, Eliza Bailey received a red and blue ribbon. The blue ribbon is the highest award you can receive. There were 120 teams that competed at State. With both of the Schuyler teams, Schuyler FFA ranked 25th. All of the FFA members that qualified for State were freshman. Casey Harper,FFA Co-Sponsor, stated “They came early in the morning for consecutive days in a row for weeks straight studying for their contests that has led them to where we are now.”
Addison Vavricek was the highest scorer on her team. The hard work is not done, they are looking to improve so that they can do better at State next year. Addison shared, “I know that my team is capable of doing great things and this is just the beginning.” Since the two teams consisted of freshmen Abby, “I was very pleased with our results at State, because it was our first year competing and we competed in a competition we’d never done before and we were competing against upperclassmen.”
