Daisy Mejia, Personal Finance teacher, is now the new adviser for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America at Schuyler Community High School. “I am looking forward to working with students and the community as the new FCCLA adviser,” shared Ms. Mejia. According to Ms. Mejia, the students have amazing skills and ideas, and she is looking forward to helping them reach their goals. Some of the goals she would also like to achieve as a whole are making it to State in a few competitive events and also having community service events in the future.

If interested in FCCLA, Gina Alba an FCCLA officer, recommended asking Ms. Mejia or a current member in FCCLA how to join. FCCLA member and junior, Jossie DeLaTorre also has advice when joining FCCLA. “It’s not as easy as you think there is so much work that goes into being in FCCLA,” Jossie shared. According to Ms. Mejia, “Active members will develop teamwork, creativity, leadership, responsibility, and time management skills.” Members can practice skills for family and consumer science related careers through involvement in STAR events and competitions. Gina shared that she has learned real world skills and public speaking because of FCCLA. Jossie explained that FCCLA has helped her choose her career, and helped her be more social.
