On February 17th and 18th, State Wrestling took place at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. This year Schuyler Central High School had 4 boys and 4 girls qualify for State Wrestling. The boys who qualified for State were; Jordan Martinez (10), Chris Shannon (10), Bryan Romero (12), and Diego Maganda (12). The girls who qualified for State Wrestling were; Lauren Wemhoff (9), Sinai Sanchez (10), Hasley Salgado (12), Angela Velasquez (12). “I believe that hard work and dedication to the sport are the things that help the qualifiers find success,” Boys Wrestling Head Coach Jermy Hlavac shared. Unfortunately none of the State Qualifiers placed at State. “I felt it went well, however we went down to Omaha to win wrestling matches. Which we did, I would have liked for some of our boys to find the medal stand,” according to Coach Hlavac, the two seniors fell one match short of medaling. “It was not from a lack of effort, each of the boys gave great effort,” Coach Hlavac shared.

At State Wrestling, Lauren Wemhoff was close to earning a medal. Lauren won matches in the consolation bracket after losing her first round match. Eventually, Lauren lost in the 135 consolation third round. Sinal Sanchez won her first match at State. Sinal lost in the 105 quarterfinals. Hasley Salgado was pinned in the consolation first round. Angela Velasquez lost her first round match at State.
