Daisy Meja, the FCCLA Advisor and Business teacher at Schuyler Central High School, traveled to Denver, Colorado for FCCLA Nationals. “My favorite part was traveling to another state and having the opportunity to see over 7,900 FCCLA members from all around the nation,” shared Ms. Meja. FCCLA Nationals took place in the summer and there were two National qualifiers who traveled to Denver, Colorado to compete. Both students who attended Nationals graduated last year. One of the students was Josue Fuentes. Josue’s competition category was Baking and Pastry in Level 3. Josue received a Bronze medal for his baking and decorating demonstration. The second student was Vivi Anne Sayer, her competition category was Fashion Construction Level 3. Vivi Anne received a Gold medal. “They both did such an amazing job in their competitive event,” shared Ms. Meja.
Ms. Meja also enjoyed how students were able to listen to different speakers talk about various topics. This is Ms. Meja second year as SCHS FCCLA Advisor and has made many memories with students, and will continue to influence students to become better leaders. Ms. Meja and Cole Martinez, the new FCS teacher, are both working on making this year’s FCCLA as successful as they possibly can. Both teachers would love to see new members come out and join the FCCLA team. If students are interested in joining the FCCLA chapter “they would simply fill out a student information page and pay their National and State dues to become active members,” shared Ms. Meja. If students have any questions they can either contact Mr. Martinez or Ms. Meja to get more information about this year’s FCCLA chapter.
