Schuyler South Park has gained more trees from a grant. The amount of trees increased by 10 on September 19, 2023. The different types of trees that were planted were Cottonwood, Hackberry, Oak, and Locust trees. The City of Schuyler applied for the National Statewide Arboretum Grant. According to plantnebraska.org, the National Statewide Arboretum is where “we plant Nebraska for healthy people, vibrant communities and a resilient environment.”
The Schuyler FFA was able to help out the community by planting the trees. Aidan Rorah, 10, Bela Jedlicka, 11, Addison Vavricek, 11, Allison Vavricek, 11, Talon Andel, 11, Hayden Bailey, 10, Abby Reyna, 11, and Hope Borman, 12, were the FFA members who attended. Casey Harper, SCHS FFA Co-Sponsor, explained how this activity helped their chapter members by “giving them access to volunteer hours and the ability to learn how to properly plant trees and these trees will then be enjoyed by the community.” The FFA members benefited from helping plant the trees at South Park by “learning how to properly plant a tree, they met a few people that work for Schuyler that helped plant the trees, and work with fellow members” shared Bela Jedlicka, Schuyler FFA member.
