The 2023 Obstacle Course Focus competition was held the week of December 11th. The obstacle course included a hot dog eating contest, solving a math problem, twenty push-ups, a partner carry race, assembling a puzzle, a geography problem, and jumping rope. The coordinator of the Obstacle Course Focus competition was Nick Wilcox, a Science Teacher, Head Football Coach, and an assistant coach for boys wrestling. Mr. Wilcox was inspired by the memory of completing a similar competition as a college football player. Anthony Bolen, a Lifetime Sports teacher shared, “I do feel that the obstacle course was a team building activity and I thought Mr. Wilcox did an excellent job preparing and setting up the event.”
Mr. Bolen’s Focus class had a lot of group effort. Ailyn Angel, a junior and a member of Mr. Bolen’s Focus class, had speed and natural talent for doing the puzzle. Daniel Maiz, a junior and member of Mr. Bolen’s Focus class, had great skills with jumping rope. Mr. Bolen’s Focus class leader, Celestyna Perez, a senior, was always supportive of the group activities Mr. Bolen’s Focus class participated in. Andrea Adame, a junior and member of Mr. Bolen’s Focus class shared, “My favorite part was when our focus group was running around trying to finish before the other Focus class and we ended up finishing in first place before the other Focus groups.”
