There were eighteen Schuyler Central High School FFA members who qualified for State this year. They qualified for thirty two spots in the State Convention. On April 3rd- 5th, the State FFA Convention was held in Lincoln, Nebraska. In the previous year, Eliza Bailey, an ex-member of FFA, was at State in 4-H and placed 4th in a Horticulture contest. Making her qualified for Nationals in Maryland. This year, they have a State Champion award winner in the FFA Chapter.
Allison Vavricek, a junior, is State champion in Livestock Judging. “Honestly, I was pretty shocked when I won State, not because I didn’t think I could do it, but because I knew there were many talented individuals going to compete there,” commented Allison. Allison prepared herself by coming in at 7 A.M to work with the SCHS FFA Co-Sponsors, Casey Harper and Hal Moomey. “The past 3 years, I have put in hundreds of hours of practice to get to this point, and this summer I competed in many other livestock judging contests to prepare me for this one,” shared Allison. Allison’s favorite memory, besides winning State Champion, was being able to meet new people from around the state that are passionate about agriculture like her.
