The University of Nebraska at Lincoln Language Fair is an opportunity where talents can be shown from different cultures and students can learn about other students’ cultures. Thursday, April 4th, was the 45th Annual Language Fair. The theme for the UNL Language Fair was War, Peace, and Reconciliation. At the fair, there were; mini lessons on different languages, a community room where students were able to connect with community partners who highlight career options for those who have a major in language, and a poster session room, which was a space to view student poster entries. “I really loved seeing different types of drawing from different categories, they were so good and creative and it shows how they really work hard on their piece of art,” shared sophomore, Esmeralda Munoz.
“I enjoyed my students being able to experience different cultures,” Biology teacher, Alexis Wilch shared. The students were able to try different Asian teas and even learned how to write and pronounce their names in Japanese. The UNL Language Fair was an opportunity for students who speak Arabic, French, Chinese, German, Spanish, Czech, and Japanese to be able to learn much more than grammar rules and vocabulary, and learn the culture behind these different languages. Esmeralda Munoz won honorable mention in the level 2 Spanish poster category with her poster “Guerra y reconciliacion”. “I still don’t believe I won an award for the UNL conference, but I’m really grateful and glad for receiving one,” Esmeralda shared. The other SCHS students who attended the Language Fair with Ms. Wilch were; Diana Peralta 10, Genesis Borja 9, Amy Delacruz 9, Jazminlett Bernal 10, Natally Medina 10, Heidi Cristobal 10, and Valeria Grado 9. Students created a video for the competition also.
