Jose Cruz, 12, is the new class B #1 ranked soccer player for the most goals in a high school career in Nebraska. He holds the record of 121 goals. On April 19th, the boys varsity team went against the York Dukes and won by 10-0. During the game, Jose hit a head shot to the goal and made his 113th goal. “I felt many emotions when breaking the record, but I’d say I felt mostly proud that my hard work paid off,” exclaimed Jose.
Jose shared that he has been playing soccer since he could walk. He transferred his sophomore year to Scotus Shamrock, but later returned to SCHS his junior year. Jose wants to continue playing at a more competitive level and challenge himself. One of Jose’s biggest challenges is “being man marked by 2-3 boys each game, but I still managed to compete,” shared Jose. Diego Gutierrez, from the Ralston Rams, held the State record of 112 goals since 2017.
