Students practice for their upcoming musical performance.

Schuyler Central High School musical time is coming around and auditions are finished. There are 18 cast members, 1 light crew and 10 pit band members. Hope Pederson, Art teacher, and Paul Niedbalski, Band director, assisted with auditions for the musical. Morgan Semerad, Music teacher, is the Head Musical Director.

This will be Morgan’s first year as the Head Director. She graduated from SCHS in 2013. Morgan was part of the Schuyler High School musical twice her senior year.  “Senior year we did Cinderella and I got to be one of the ugly stepsisters and my actual sister was a step-sister with me so we got to play off of each other. One of my best friends, who was a guy, played the stepmother, as a guy, so we just had a ton of fun in the role.” Morgan shared. Morgan went to Drake University in Des Moines Iowa and studied Musical Education.

The 2021 musical is The Addams Family musical. In the musical the Addams family is kind of crazy. Wednesday falls in love with a boy named Lucas and Lucas’s family doesn’t match the Addams family. Ben Lefdal will be playing Lucas and Janey Para will be acting as Wednesday.  Covid has put limits and certain precautions to many events including this musical. In a musical typically emotions and facial expressions are made. It makes it hard for the characters to tell and show how the characters are trying to express themselves. “Masks don’t allow you to see a lot of facial expressions so that will always hamper us in that department, but we did it for the one-act so I think that it will be okay” Morgan said. The first performance will be on May 1st at 7 p.m. At this time, it is unknown whether or not there will be a performance during school.
