The Schuyler Central High School Ladies Golf Team’s Head Coach Shanda Hall applied for and received a PGA Grant this summer. There are a total of nine girls on this year’s girls golf team. The grant “is an initiative founded by the Southern California Section PGA to provide high school-aged girls (14-18) with the necessary golf equipment,” explained Coach Hall. The grant also provided for three days of instruction for 15 to 20 girls in grades 6-12. The three days of instruction consisted of interacting with one another while being trained by Nebraska PGA professionals. This is Coach Hall’s second time applying for the PGA Grant for Ladies Golf. Last year she applied and didn’t receive the grant, but then she thought “I would keep trying and applied again,” shared Coach Hall. The grant given to the Schuyler Central High School golf team is only awarded once. Coach Hall shared that “we are just super grateful to have been chosen this year and the ladies on the team are appreciative of the equipment and the instruction they received this summer.”
“I have already seen improvement in their games and in confidence and pride with the new equipment,” Coach Hall explained. The equipment the SCHS ladies golfers received were 5 new sets of Calloway golf clubs, 5 golf bags, and 5 pushcarts. The equipment the SCHS ladies used before were already somewhat damaged and the grips were worn out already,” according to Coach Hall.
