After teaching at St. Joseph Catholic School as a elementary and junior high, Physical Education teacher Anthony Bolen is now teaching at Schuyler Central High School as a new Physical Education teacher. Mr. Bolen attended Lyons Decatur Northeast High School then attended Wayne State College where he earned his Bachelor of Science and majored in Physical Education K-12 with a minor in coaching. Mr. Bolen mentioned that one thing he enjoys about teaching P.E is that he enjoys “seeing the growth and understanding that a student goes through while learning new skills.” Mr. Bolen commented that “the opportunity to coach and teach at the high school level,” is what convinced him to teach at SCHS. In addition to a physical education teacher, Mr. Bolen is also an assistant coach for the SCHS football team. Mr. Bolen also plans to begin coaching either high school basketball or wrestling this winter.
High school for Mr. Bolen included playing football, basketball, track, and baseball. During Mr. Bolen’s high school years, Mr. Bolen also enjoyed spending time with his friends and teammates. Mr. Bolen’s inspiration to become a physical education teacher came from his male teachers and coaches in high school. Mr. Bolen mentioned that his coaches and teachers “had a positive impact on” his life, which inspired him to coach and teach.
