After weeks of hardwork and effort, Family Career and Community Leaders of America members competed at Districts resulting in 3 of the 5 students qualifying for State.  The three students that qualified for State were; Cristal Gurrola 12, and Yanibeth Carias 12, qualified in Interior Design and Allison Arriaga 10, qualified in Teach or Train.  Jazminlett Bernal 10, and Areli Arellano 10, placed 4th place winning a bronze medal in Food Innovations. Elizabeth Guit, a senior, will be heading to State and competing in Baking and Pastries.  This category does not have a District level competition.  A category that do not have a District or a State level competition, however compete online to qualify for Nationals, is Instructional Video. Gina Alba, a senior, will be competing online in Instructional Video.

The students had a helping hand from their advisers Cole Martinez, Family Consumer Science teacher, and Daisy Mejia, Personal Finance teacher. This is Mr. Martinez’s first year as a FCCLA Co- advisor. “I am extremely proud to have sent students to State during my first year at SCHS and have my fingers crossed that we at least send one to Nationals,” shared Mr. Martinez. The 2023-24 school year is Ms.  Mejia’s second year as an advisor for FCCLA.  “This year, I have more experience and know the process a little more,” explained Ms.  Mejia.
